Kingshott School admissions for the Senior School run through online registration, a Senior School Assessment Morning for entry into Years 7, 8 and 9, and an offer stage followed by an Acceptance Form and deposit. The school is co-educational and takes pupils from 3 to 16, so Year 7 at age 11 is the main Senior School entry point and there is no sixth-form entry.

The Assessment Morning is run by the school itself, and its published pages do not name an outside test provider. Families who want the paper-by-paper detail are directed to the Admissions Manager, who can be reached on 01462 432009.

Entry points and places

Senior School entry is into Year 7 at age 11, and the same Assessment Morning also covers entry into Year 8 and Year 9. Year 7 follows directly from the end of the Junior School at Year 6, which makes it the main point at which pupils join the Senior School.

The school does not publish a number of places or forms of entry on the pages read. Below Year 7, the Junior School takes pupils from Reception, and the Nursery takes children from age 3 with main starts in the autumn and spring terms and a summer start subject to availability.

How the Senior School Assessment Morning works

The Senior School Assessment Morning is a single morning session of three hours, running from 08:45 to 11:45, for applicants to Years 7, 8 and 9. It is held on a Saturday, and an alternative weekday morning of the same length is arranged for families who cannot attend the main session.

The pages read do not set out the subjects, question types, interview or group activity, or whether a report from the current school is requested. Those points are worth confirming with the Admissions Manager at admissions@kingshottschool.com when you register, so that your child knows what to expect on the day.

Registration and the admissions timeline

Registration is completed online by choosing the year of entry, giving details for everyone who holds parental responsibility, and paying a non-refundable registration fee, after which the form redirects to a payment page. The school describes registration as confirming interest, subject to availability.

Most families first visit through a personal tour or an open event, as often as they wish, and then register for the year of entry. Your child attends the Senior School Assessment Morning, or the alternative morning if the main one is not possible, and the school issues an offer a few weeks later.

Accepting the place means returning the Acceptance Form with a deposit, which is credited against the final account when the child leaves and is non-refundable if the place is not taken up. The school then arranges joining events for new families.

Scholarships and bursaries

Kingshott offers Honorary Awards in five disciplines, namely academic, art, drama, music and sport, for pupils joining in Year 7 or Year 9. Applicants are expected to show a high level of ability or potential together with genuine enthusiasm for the chosen discipline.

Awards are decided through a separate Honorary Award Assessment and are granted on merit to the highest-performing candidates. Holders receive targeted teaching in their area of talent and additional enrichment, and the school states that no bursary provision or reduction in fees is attached to the award.

The fees page does not mention bursaries or sibling discounts, so any question about financial support is best put to the fees office at fees@kingshottschool.com.

Fees and what they include

Termly fees for Year 3 to Year 11 are published on the school's fees page by academic year, and a single figure covers tuition, VAT and lunch. Invoices are due on or before the first day of each term, and the school prefers payment by termly Direct Debit.

Several items sit outside the termly fee: the non-refundable registration fee, the deposit that is later credited without interest after the final term, music lessons on all instruments, LAMDA lessons, ballet and tap dance, Breakfast Club and After School Care, which are charged per session. The amounts are on the school's own fees page.

Where pupils join from and move on to

Kingshott runs its own Junior School from Reception to Year 6, and Years 4 to 6 are taught in the Ashbrook building, which the school describes as a stepping stone towards Senior School learning. The school presents the whole as a continuous 3 to 16 education, and it belongs to the Mill Hill Education Group.

The pages read do not describe a formal process for moving from Year 6 to Year 7 or name any feeder or partner schools. At the Senior School, teaching runs to GCSE in Year 11, and there is no sixth form, so Years 10 and 11 include preparation for sixth-form places elsewhere, with some opportunities within the Mill Hill Education Group, supported by enrichment and careers guidance.

How to prepare for the Assessment Morning

Preparation starts with confirming the format, because the subjects and question types for the Assessment Morning are not published. A short conversation with the Admissions Manager, ideally before or at registration, tells you what your child will be asked to do during the three hours.

Since the session is a full morning, it helps to let your child practise working steadily for a similar length of time, with breaks, on English and mathematics at the level of their current school. Visiting beforehand through an open event or a personal tour tends to make the building and the day feel familiar.

For an Honorary Award, applicants are looking to show ability and enthusiasm in one discipline, so gathering examples of recent work, performance or sporting involvement in that area is a sensible step before the separate award assessment.

Preparing for the Kingshott School 11+ with Taylor Tuition

Families preparing for the Kingshott School 11+ usually come to us a year or so before the assessment, though shorter runs work where the foundations are already sound.
