Getting into Lycée International de Londres Winston Churchill means applying online through the school's Eduka portal at any point in the year, with no entrance exam at 7+, 8+, 11+ or 16+. Offers depend on places available in the year group, the last three school reports and the level of French or English that the chosen track requires.

The school takes children of all nationalities from age 3 to 18 in Wembley, and from Year 7 families choose between a French Track and an International Track taught in English. The sections below set out each entry point, the language checks, the application steps, the fees page and the financial support the school publishes.

Entry points and places

The school admits pupils from age 3 to 18 and publishes language expectations for each stage, so the entry points from age 7 upwards are Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6, Year 7 and Year 12, with later joiners considered in Year 10 and above. Admissions stay open throughout the year, and pupils join as space allows in each year group.

The school does not publish numbers of places or forms of entry; the admissions policy states that offers depend on the places available in each year. The admissions team at admissions@lyceeinternational.london or 020 3824 4900 can say whether a given year group has space.

  • Years 3 and 4: considered case by case where a pupil has limited French and English
  • Years 5 and 6: fluency in French and English is required
  • Year 7 onwards: French Track needs fluency in French, International Track needs fluency in English
  • Year 12: IB Diploma on the International Track, or Première on the French Track

Is there an entrance exam at 11+?

There is no entrance exam at 11+, and the school states that offers depend on the number of places in the year group. Entry to Year 7 therefore turns on the application file, the last three school reports and the language level of the track chosen.

The French Track requires a high level of spoken and written fluency in French, and the school notes that a French aptitude test may be required for pupils who are not coming from an accredited French school. The International Track requires a high level of fluency in English. No test provider is named by the school, and no papers are published.

Registration and the admissions timeline

Registration happens entirely through the Eduka application software, and the school accepts applications at any time of year with no published closing deadline. The steps on the How to Apply page run in a set order.

Incomplete applications can delay the process, and the school recommends saving documents as PDFs where possible. The school also notes that a postponed application and first registration fee can be frozen for one or two years, after which the family restarts the process through the Admissions Committee.

  • Book an open day, a private tour or a call with the bilingual admissions team
  • Create an account on the Eduka portal and validate the email address
  • Upload the documents for the child and each parent or guardian, including the last three school reports and proof of payment of the registration fee
  • Submit the application and wait for the admissions decision, which depends on places in the year group
  • Accept the place and pay the refundable deposit listed on the fees page

Interviews and references from the current school

The school's admissions pages describe no interview, group activity or written test as a standard step, and they ask instead for the last three school reports from the child's current school. Those reports are read as part of the application at every entry point, which makes them the main academic evidence the school publishes.

Where a child has special needs or a long-term illness, the school assesses the child's needs and whether it can meet them. For International Track entry in Year 10 and above, applicants need certain grades in Maths, English and other specified subjects, and the admissions team can confirm which.

Scholarships and bursaries

The school publishes one merit scholarship, a Bridge Scholarship and a means-tested bursary, alongside AEFE-linked support for eligible French citizens. The Academic Scholarship is funded by the Wembley Education Charitable Trust, goes to new students, runs for up to three years subject to annual review and asks for two years of report cards, previous exam results and a recommendation letter. Decisions cannot be appealed.

The Bridge Scholarship goes to a small number of high-achieving Year 9 pupils at the partner school CFBL, who sit an academic assessment and apply through Eduka. The means-tested Churchill Bursary Programme is for current families, offers a fixed annual amount for up to two years and is unlikely to be awarded to families already receiving French government support or the Academic Scholarship.

Where a family receives an AEFE bursary, the school adds proportionate funds: a 100% AEFE bursary means no fees, an 80% bursary means the family pays 20% of full fees, and a 15% bursary means the family pays 85%. The French Scholarship Foundation, an independent charity, supports families of any nationality with financial need.

Fees and what they include

Fees are published as annual figures on the school's fees page, split by section, with the International Track at the highest level and the French Track Collège and Primary at the same level as each other. Tuition is subject to VAT for most sections, and lunch is included in the totals because on-site lunch is compulsory.

The fees page also lists a non-refundable application fee per student, a non-refundable registration fee per family that falls for second and later children, and a refundable deposit returned once the final account is settled. A 5% tuition discount applies to the third and each later child. Secondary fees include a school-owned tablet with software and digital textbooks; trips, after-school programmes and exam fees are charged separately.

Fees are paid in monthly instalments unless agreed otherwise with the school. Check the fees page for the instalment pattern, since the school's pages describe it differently in places.

Sixth form entry at 16+

New students can join Year 12 of the International Track to take the two-year IB Diploma, with high English fluency required, and external candidates are considered under the Admissions Policy. The IB page describes motivated students with strong academic foundations and lists six subject groups, three at Higher Level and three at Standard Level.

On the French Track, pupils from Première choose between the Baccalauréat Français and the Baccalauréat Français International, and high French fluency is required. The school publishes no minimum GCSE grades, entrance papers or interview for Year 12, so families should ask the admissions team about subject expectations before applying.

How to prepare

Preparation follows the school's published criteria, which are the language level of the chosen track and the last three school reports. For the French Track, it helps to keep written academic French up to date through reading and extended writing, since the school looks for both spoken and written fluency and may set an aptitude test for pupils from outside accredited French schools.

For the International Track, regular reading and written work in English matches the fluency the school asks for. Gather the document list early, including passports, birth certificates, proof of right to reside and the reports, so the Eduka application can be submitted complete. An open day or a private tour is a practical way to ask which track and year group suits the child.
