Radnor House Sevenoaks admissions run through five entry points, 7+ and 8+ into the Prep, 11+ into Year 7, 13+ into Year 9 and 16+ into the Sixth Form, and Year 7 is the main entry to the Senior School. At 11+ and 13+ the assessment combines an online CAT4 cognitive test and a 30-minute English writing test with an interview and a reference from the child's current school.
The CAT4 and the writing test carry half of the final decision, and the interview and reference carry the other half. Once a child joins, the school guarantees the place through to the end of Sixth Form, so the entry decision is the one that matters most.
| Entry point | Year group | Assessment | Interview | Places |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7+ | Year 3 | Prep entry with a personalised taster session in the term before joining; the CAT4 is not required below Year 4 | Not stated | Not published |
| 8+ | Year 4 (and Years 5 and 6) | Assessment including an online CAT4 test for Year 4 entry and above, then a taster session | Not stated | Not published |
| 11+ | Year 7 | Online CAT4 and a 30-minute English writing test, which together count for half of the decision | About 10 minutes, with a short reading passage, plus a reference from the current school; together half of the decision | Main entry point to the Senior School; number not published |
| 13+ | Year 9 | Same CAT4, writing, interview and reference process as the senior page sets out for Years 7 to 11 | About 10 minutes, plus a reference from the current school | A limited number of places; deferred Year 9 places are offered to pupils in Years 6 and 7 |
| 16+ | Year 12 | Interview with the Head of Sixth Form, then reports and predicted GCSE grades requested; offer conditional on GCSE results | Interview with the Head of Sixth Form after registration | Limited; number not published |
Entry points and places
The school admits at 7+ (Year 3), 8+ (Year 4 and above in the Prep), 11+ (Year 7), 13+ (Year 9) and 16+ (Year 12), with Year 7 described as the primary entry point for the Senior School. Pupils can also join much earlier, since the Nursery takes children from their second birthday and the Pre-Prep runs from Nursery to Year 2.
None of the admissions pages publishes a number of places at any entry point. They state only that places are limited, that early registration is recommended and that other year groups are considered as places become available.
Year 9 has a limited number of places, and deferred Year 9 places are offered to pupils in Years 6 and 7.
- 7+ Year 3: Prep entry, taster session in the term before joining
- 8+ Year 4 and above: assessment including the CAT4
- 11+ Year 7: main Senior School entry
- 13+ Year 9: limited places, deferred places possible
- 16+ Year 12: interview and conditional offer
How the 11+ assessment works
The 11+ assessment has two academic parts, an online CAT4 test and a 30-minute English writing test, and together they make up half of the final decision. The CAT4 is taken on a computer and covers vocabulary, maths, perceptual speed and accuracy, and non-verbal reasoning.
The writing test asks for 30 minutes of prose. Both parts are the school's own selection of components, and the pages name no other test provider. Extra time has to be requested in the application, so families who expect to need it should say so when they register.
Late applicants may be offered extra test sittings if places remain.
- CAT4: online, vocabulary, maths, perceptual speed and accuracy, non-verbal reasoning
- English writing: 30 minutes of prose
- Academic testing: 50% of the final decision

Families register online through the admissions portal, after which a member of the admissions team makes contact about the next steps. The published order is visit, register, assess, offer, and the school recommends registering early because places are limited.
The pages publish no registration deadline or assessment date in text, but the senior entry page links to downloadable key dates documents for Year 7 and Year 9 entry. Admissions can be reached on 01959 567 166 or at enquiries@radnor-sevenoaks.org.
After a successful taster day the school aims to make an offer within a week. Acceptance needs a completed acceptance form and a refundable deposit, and Year 7 offer holders are invited to a Discovery Morning.
- Visit: private tour or open event
- Register: online form and registration fee
- Assess: CAT4, writing test, interview, reference
- Offer: aimed within a week of a successful taster day
- Accept: acceptance form and refundable deposit
Interviews and references
The interview lasts about 10 minutes and, with the reference from the child's current school, makes up the other half of the decision. It explores the child's interests inside and outside school, includes a short reading passage and asks how the child shows the school's values of respect, courage and perseverance.
A reference from the current school is required for senior entry. At sixth form the school asks for recent reports and predicted GCSE grades only after a successful interview.
The Prep pages describe a taster session and the CAT4 for Year 4 entry and above, and mention neither an interview nor a reference.
Scholarships and bursaries
The school offers academic scholarships at Year 7 and Year 9, sixth form academic scholarships for internal and external candidates, and art, drama, music and sport scholarships, typically worth 5% to 10% of annual tuition. A sixth form Academic Scholarship gives at least 20% off tuition, and exhibitions give one-off fee remission to strong candidates who narrowly miss a scholarship.
Specialist assessments in sport, music, drama and art take place after the application deadline. Art and drama scholars must take the subject at GCSE, and an application form is required.
Means-tested bursaries cover up to 50% of tuition and are for Senior School pupils only, at any point of entry. Applicants complete a bursary form with detailed financial information, which the Finance Team and an external organisation, Bursary Administration Limited, review and verify.
Fees and what they include
Fees are quoted per term, reviewed annually and published in a fees schedule on the school's fees page, with VAT applying to tuition from Reception upwards and Nursery exempt. Day fees rise by stage, with separate rates for Prep, Years 7 and 8, Years 9 to 11 and the sixth form.
Termly fees include a complimentary breakfast for pupils in Year 3 and above who arrive early. Lunch and accident insurance are compulsory extras, wrap care is optional, and GCSE and A level entry fees are not included.
A third or subsequent child receives 10% off tuition, and a lump-sum scheme gives 2% off fees paid in advance. The school runs six bus routes for pupils from Year 3 onward, including Tunbridge Wells, Kings Hill, Beckenham, Otford, Warlingham and Chiddingstone with Edenbridge.
Where pupils join from
Most Prep pupils continue to Year 7 on the same campus, and the school says it does not require an admissions test for the move from Prep to Senior School. Some Prep families choose grammar schools or other options at 11+, and the Prep prepares children for either path.
Because the school runs from Nursery to Sixth Form, pupils can carry on to Sixth Form without a separate application, and external candidates join at Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12. The school names no external feeder or partner schools, and as an independent school it publishes no catchment area.
How sixth form entry works
Sixth form entry follows seven steps: visit, register, information evening, taster day, interview with the Head of Sixth Form, conditional offer and acceptance. Registration shows interest without committing a family to accept a place.
The offer is conditional on GCSE results, and the school requests recent reports and predicted grades from the current school after a successful interview. The sixth form page publishes no minimum GCSE grades, no subject requirements and no entrance papers, so families are best placed to ask the admissions team for the grades expected in their chosen A Level subjects.
Scholarship applications can be made as part of the process. Internal scholars are judged on GCSE mock exams, November assessments and Behaviours for Learning, and external candidates on GCSE results.
How to prepare
The school states that no practice papers are available for the CAT4, so preparation for the online test is best limited to familiarity with working on a computer and a calm, well-rested sitting. For the writing test, the school points to independent problem-solving and wide reading, and 30 minutes of timed prose practice on varied topics fits that format.
For the interview, a child can rehearse talking about interests inside and outside school and reading a short passage aloud, since both appear in the 10-minute format. Children can also think of examples of respect, courage and perseverance from their own lives.
Families with a child who may need extra time should say so in the application, as the school asks for that request at the point of application.
