How the 11+ assessment works
The 11+ assessment is an online test set by the London 11+ Consortium, lasting 100 minutes in total including a 20-minute break. It is adaptive to the candidate's performance, so timing is tailored to each child, and extra time is available to eligible pupils under JCQ guidelines.
Papers cover Maths, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English, Verbal Reasoning, Puzzles and Problem Solving and Comprehension, and the Consortium describes the test as assessing creative and critical thinking, problem-solving and academic potential. A child sits it once, however many Consortium schools they apply to, either at the Priory or at a Consortium school that hosts the test (current schools can advise).

Proof of identification and immigration status is also required, and a visit before registering is recommended although registering without one is possible if you already know the school.
For 11+ entry the sequence runs in this order, with the dates published in the key facts above and on the 11+ page. The school recommends visiting an Open Event before Year 6, and the registration deadline falls in the autumn term of Year 6.
- Book an Open Event or visit
- Register online and pay the fee

- Sit the Consortium test
- Current Headteacher provides a reference
- Attend Selection Day
- Receive an offer on Offers Day, in line with Consortium offers

Interviews and references
Every 11+ candidate is interviewed on Selection Day, which also includes a range of activities and a visit to Priory Farm. Scholarship assessments for 11+ take place on the same day, except sport, which is held before Christmas.
After an application is made, the Headteacher of the child's current school is asked for a confidential reference that is added to the admissions record. The 11+ page does not mention school reports. For Years 3 to 6 and Years 8 to 10, references sit alongside the entrance papers, classroom assessment and a meeting with the Headteacher.
Scholarships and bursaries
The school offers 11+ scholarships in Academic, Art, Drama, Music and Sport, each worth up to 10% of tuition fees. Academic candidates may also apply for one of the other four, whilst candidates not applying for Academic may apply for only one. Applications use the online Scholarship Application Form, and external candidates must register first.
Other awards are a sport scholarship for entry to Year 9 and modern languages, computer science and drama scholarships for entry to Year 10, all up to 10%. At 16+ the Mary Tredway Award is academic and covers 100% of tuition fees, creative arts scholarships (art, drama, music) give 50%, and subject scholarships give 10% in up to two A Level subjects.
Means-tested bursaries are available at 11+ and 16+ for candidates who meet the admission criteria. Families complete a Bursary Enquiry Form in the September before entry and at least a week before the registration deadline; the form is an enquiry, and the Admissions Team then makes contact.
Fees and what they include
Fees are charged per term and published by department, with the Senior Department figure shown in the key facts above both before and after 20% VAT. Tuition covers the standard curriculum, teaching materials and books, although pupils may be asked to buy specific texts.
Cooked lunches, educational trips, public examination fees and clubs are charged separately. A non-refundable registration fee applies to each application, and an acceptance deposit is refundable when the child leaves, provided the notice period is met and fees are settled. A sibling discount applies from Reception to Year 13, and a full term's written notice is required to leave.
Sixth form entry at 16+
Entry to Priory Sixth at 16+ is by an extended interview with the Headteacher and the Director of Sixth Form. Applicants are assessed on academic ambition and engagement beyond the classroom, and pupils can continue from the school's own Year 11 or join from another school.
The pages read do not publish GCSE grade requirements or entrance papers. 16+ scholarship applications close in the autumn term and are assessed during that term, so candidates interested in the Mary Tredway Award or the creative arts and subject awards need to apply early in the process.
Where pupils join from
The Priory has its own Nursery, Pre-Preparatory and Preparatory Departments, with boys in the Preps and Pre-Preps and girls in the senior school. The pages read do not describe how Prep pupils move up to Year 7 or name partner or feeder schools.
Most external 11+ candidates therefore arrive from their current primary or prep school, whose Headteacher supplies the reference, and the Consortium test can often be sat at that school if it hosts the test.
How to prepare
Preparation for the 11+ centres on the Consortium Familiarisation Test, which is available on the London 11+ Consortium website and shows the online format. Because the test is adaptive and covers six areas, regular short practice across Maths, English, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning and problem-solving puzzles tends to suit it better than concentrating on one paper type.
For Selection Day, a child can practise talking about their interests and explaining their thinking aloud, since the interview sits alongside activities. Visiting an Open Event beforehand helps a child feel at ease on the day.

Preparing for the St Augustine's Priory 11+ with Taylor Tuition
Families preparing for the St Augustine's Priory 11+ usually come to us a year or so before the assessment, though shorter runs work where the foundations are already sound. Having prepared pupils for entry to leading independent and grammar schools, with placements including Westminster, St Paul's, Wycombe Abbey and Eton, our tutors build each programme around the format the school actually uses, whether a written paper, an online pre-test, an interview or a combination of them.
More than half of our tutors hold Qualified Teacher Status and around three in five hold a master's degree or doctorate, and the pool includes former heads of department, exam-board examiners and teachers from independent and boarding schools, so the preparation is led by people who know how selective schools assess. Every tutor who works with children holds an enhanced DBS check.
Families work with us online from anywhere in the UK or abroad, and in person in central London. Fees start from £50 per 50-minute session and depend on tutor level and subject, with no registration fee and a free initial consultation to talk through your child's current level and the timeline to the 11+. Families receive progress reports after sessions and have a dedicated point of contact.
