St Edmund's School, Hindhead admissions run through a registration form, a visit, a taster or trial day and the school's own assessments, with Nursery, Reception, Form 3 (7+) and Form 7 (11+) as the usual entry points and Form 9 (13+) offered only when places arise. The main entry point is Form 7, which is the Year 7 entry into the Prep School, and its assessment covers English comprehension and creative writing, maths, and team-building and leadership challenges.
Every registered candidate is also interviewed by the Headmaster or a member of the Senior Management Team, and the current school is asked for a report on progress and potential. The papers are the school's own, so there is no external test provider to book, and the school states that no preparation is required for its Form 8 trial.
| Entry point | Year group | Assessment | Interview | Places |

| 13+ | Year 9 (Form 9) | Trial day in the Lent Term of Form 8 with an assessment; offer made after a successful trial if Form 9 places exist. | Interview on the trial day | Only if places become available |
Entry points and places
The usual entry points are Nursery, Reception, Form 3 (7+) and Form 7 (11+), with Form 9 (13+) offered if places become available. Other year groups may be offered subject to places and a satisfactory admissions and assessment process, and a waiting list operates once a year group is full.
The school does not publish a number of places or forms of entry at any point. Forms 10 and 11 are offered only when circumstances are truly unusual, because GCSE courses begin in Form 9.
How the 11+ assessment works
The 11+ assessment for Form 7 entry consists of English papers in reading comprehension and creative writing, a maths paper, and team-building and leadership challenges, all set by the school itself. Candidates are first invited to a group taster in the autumn term of Form 6, and the entrance assessments follow in November of Form 6.
The pages read do not state paper lengths or the number of papers. Academic scholarships are identified from these same assessments, so scholarship candidates do not sit a separate academic paper.

Enquire about this tutorEntry at 7+ and the younger Prep forms
Entry to Form 3 (7+) uses informal assessments and interviews for registered children, followed by a taster day with a buddy on a normal timetable. The assessments are designed to show how the child learns and their academic potential, and the school aims to make an offer at the end of the taster.
The same pattern applies across Lower Prep, Forms 1 to 4. For Forms 5 and 6, the taster includes informal English and maths assessments, and a Form 3 themed taster day has been run for children considering entry.
How the 13+ assessment works
Form 9 (13+) is not a standard entry point, and an offer is made only if places exist after a successful trial. The trial day takes place in the Lent Term of Form 8 and includes an assessment and an interview, and the current school is asked for a report.
The pages read do not give the Form 9 paper format. Registration and a pre-test in Year 6 are not part of the process described; families register first and are then invited to the assessment and a day at the school.
Registration and the admissions sequence
Admissions follow six published steps, and all parents complete the registration form with a non-refundable registration fee. The sequence begins with an enquiry to the Registrar by email or phone, then a visit through an Open Morning or a private tour that includes a meeting with the Headmaster, and then registration, where the form and fee must both be received before the application is processed.
After registration the child attends a taster session, and acceptance follows under the school's Terms and Conditions with a refundable deposit, which is refunded on the final extras invoice at the end of the term the child leaves. The last two steps cover fees, scholarships and bursaries, with bursary applications possible once the registration form is complete, and transport, where school bus routes are published separately.
Interviews and references
At 11+ every candidate is interviewed by the Headmaster or a member of the Senior Management Team, and before the assessments the current school is contacted for a report on progress and potential. The interview sits alongside the written papers and leadership challenges.
At 7+ and in the younger forms the interviews are informal and form part of the taster. At 13+ the interview and the school report both belong to the trial day in Form 8.
Scholarships and bursaries
Scholarships are offered at Form 7 (11+) and Form 9 (13+) in academic work, art, drama, music, choral singing, performing arts and sport, to pupils from the school's own Form 6 and Form 8 and to external applicants. Awards are made at the Governors' discretion on the Headmaster's recommendation, and some are honorary whilst others carry a small remission of tuition fees.
Art, drama, music, performing arts and sport candidates are assessed in the Lent Term, and registered pupils receive full scholarship information in the October before entry. Means-tested bursaries are open to families who have difficulty affording normal fees, with special consideration for military service families and families with a current or former pupil. Applicants tell the Registrar, complete a household finances form, and are assessed by the Bursar, Head and Governors; the maximum share of fees is not published.
Fees and what they include
Day fees are charged per term and rise in bands: Reception with Forms 1 and 2, Forms 3 and 4, Forms 5 and 6, and Forms 7 to 11. The figures published include VAT, and the full fee details sit in a fees document on the school's fees page.
Nursery fees are listed in a separate document. The pages read do not set out lunches, extras or what the tuition fee includes, so the fees document is the place to check.
Where pupils join from and how to prepare
The school has its own Nursery, Reception, Lower Prep (Forms 1 to 4) and Prep (Forms 5 to 8) years, and Form 7 is described as the main entry point to the Prep School. No named feeder or partner schools are listed on the pages read.
Preparation tends to follow the stages named above: practising comprehension and creative writing, reviewing maths, and getting used to working in a group for the team-building tasks at the taster and assessment. The school states that no preparation is required for the Form 8 trial, so calm familiarity with school-style English and maths is usually sufficient.
