Admission to TASIS The American School in England works through a rolling online application for ages 4 to 18, with the 7+, 11+, 14+ and 16+ points corresponding to Grades 2, 6, 9 and 11, and the school publishes no entrance exam, test provider or fixed assessment day. Decisions draw on the application form, parent and student questionnaires, school transcripts, teacher recommendations and any standardised test results the family already holds.

Applications are considered throughout the year for day places, and boarding is offered from Grade 8. The sections below follow the order a family meets the process: entry points, documents, registration steps, references, financial support, fees and preparation.

Entry points and places

TASIS England accepts applications for ages 4 to 18 all year round, so the usual senior-school entry points of 7+, 11+, 14+ and 16+ map onto Grades 2, 6, 9 and 11 on its grade placement table. Ages on that table are calculated at the start of September, and the school's own sections run from Pre-Kindergarten and Lower School (ages 4 to 10) through Middle School (ages 10 to 14) to Upper School (ages 14 to 18).

The pages read do not publish a number of places or forms of entry at any point, so families who need to know about availability in a particular grade contact the Admissions Office directly.

  • 7+ is Year 3, Grade 2
  • 11+ is Year 7, Grade 6, the start of the Middle Years Programme
  • 14+ is Year 10, Grade 9, the start of Upper School
  • 16+ is Year 12, Grade 11, the start of the IB Diploma Programme

How the 11+ assessment works

The school describes no entrance exam for Grades 6 to 8, so the 11+ decision rests on the documents in the online application. These are a photograph of the child, a copy of the birth certificate and the passport photo page, together with a parent questionnaire and a student questionnaire.

Where they exist, families also supply transcripts for the last three years sent directly from the current school, current standardised test results, and any psycho-educational evaluations or Independent Educational Plans. The application pages name no test provider, no paper lengths and no subjects tested, which means the existing school record carries the weight an exam would carry elsewhere.

Registration and the admissions timeline

Registration begins with the online inquiry form, after which the family receives an email with a link to create an online application account. The online application form is completed first, before the other items, and a separate application is submitted for each child.

The published sequence is short, and the pages give no closing date, no date for decisions and no deposit amount for new applicants, so the Admissions Office is the source for those details.

  • Inquire through the online form
  • Visit the campus with the Admissions Team, or watch the virtual recordings
  • Create the online application account and complete the application form
  • Pay the non-refundable application fee, due for each child
  • Submit questionnaires, transcripts, test results and recommendation forms
  • School review, then acceptance and enrolment, with an enrolment deposit requested after an offer where financial assistance is awarded

Recommendations and interviews

Applicants to Grades 6 to 8 need recommendations from the English teacher, the mathematics teacher and the Head of School or School Counselor. If the child is not a native English speaker, the English or EAL teacher completes the English/EAL recommendation form.

Younger applicants in Grades 2 to 5 need a recommendation from the main class teacher and one from the Head of School or School Counselor, and Grades 9 to 12 follow the same list as Grades 6 to 8. The application pages do not mention an interview, so families who want to know whether a conversation or visit forms part of the decision ask the Admissions Office.

Scholarships and bursaries

TASIS England offers a Global Community Scholarship, means-tested financial assistance and a Primary School Bursary. The scholarship is open to day and boarding pupils entering Grade 8 (Year 9) through Grade 11 (Year 12) who excel academically and in sport, arts or community work, and one scholarship is reserved for Summer Programme alumni. Applications close on monthly deadlines through the academic year, with decisions sent by the end of the same month, and awards continue until funds run out.

Means-tested assistance is open to new and re-enrolling pupils, with average awards of 5% to 25% of tuition; families supply evidence of income, capital and other assets, and reapply each year. The application and application fee must be received first, and the Financial Assistance Committee reviews the file after acceptance. The Primary School Bursary supports families who have lived locally for five or more consecutive years with children from Nursery to Year 6.

Fees and what they include

Day fees are set per year by grade band, run from Pre-Kindergarten to Grades 9 to 12, and are quoted inclusive of VAT on the school's tuition and fees page, which is the place to check the current schedule. Boarding is available for Grades 8 to 12, either for the full year or for a single semester.

Day fees include tuition, lunches, loan of textbooks, IT and laboratory fees, some classroom materials and most curriculum-related activities and field trips. They exclude busing, uniforms, varsity sports travel and equipment, school-sponsored overnight trips and external exams such as SAT, AP or IB.

Boarding fees add room and full board, weekly linen service and access to the Health and Wellbeing Centre, while private medical insurance, visa expenses and vaccination charges are extra. A non-refundable application fee applies to each child, and new pupils pay a one-time Development Fund fee.

Where pupils join from and 16+ entry

Pupils join TASIS England from a range of schools, and the pages read name no feeder or partner schools. The school itself covers ages 4 to 18 on one campus, with Lower School to age 10, Middle School from 10 to 14 and Upper School from 14 to 18, so younger pupils can progress internally through the grade bands.

Sixth form entry at 16+ lands in Grade 11 (Year 12), the first year of the IB Diploma Programme. The pages publish no GCSE grade requirement, entrance papers or interview for this stage; applicants submit the Grades 9 to 12 documents, which cover questionnaires, transcripts, test results and the English, mathematics and Head or Counselor recommendations.

How to prepare

Preparation for this application means assembling a complete file, because the school names the documents and recommendations it requires, and there are no papers to practise. Families start by requesting transcripts for the last three years from the current school, since these are sent directly by that school, and by gathering any standardised test results and psycho-educational evaluations.

Teachers and the Head or Counselor need time to complete the recommendation forms, so asking them early, and briefing the English or EAL teacher where the child is not a native English speaker, keeps the file moving. Families seeking a scholarship note the monthly deadlines and the reference and transcript requirements, while those seeking means-tested assistance prepare income and asset evidence. A campus visit or the virtual recordings give the child a clear picture of the Middle or Upper School before the questionnaires are written.
