How do you get into Wycliffe College? Families enquire online, visit the school, register, send the two most recent school reports and sit an invigilated online CAT assessment, with entry points at Year 3 (7+), Year 7 (11+), Year 9 (13+) and Year 12 (16+). Applications are accepted at any point in the academic year, so no single registration deadline governs the process.
The school describes itself as academically inclusive, which means an offer rests on the previous school's references, the CAT result and an interview by video call or visit, with day and overnight visits as part of the sequence. Scholarship assessments and bursary decisions run alongside, and the sections below set out each stage in order.
| Entry point | Year group | Assessment | Interview | Places |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7+ | Year 3 | Online CAT assessment under invigilation, plus the two most recent school reports; full boarding is offered from Year 3 | Day and overnight visits to the school | Not published |

| 13+ | Year 9 | Online CAT assessment under invigilation, plus the two most recent school reports; pupils join from the Prep School and other schools | Interview by video call or visit, with day and overnight visits | Not published |
| 16+ | Year 12 | Online CAT assessment, school reports and subject-specific GCSE grades for the chosen A Levels or BTEC courses | Interview by video call or visit | Not published |
Entry points and places
Wycliffe takes pupils into Nursery from age three and into every year group from Reception to Year 9 at any point in the academic year, with Year 12 and a Development Year for ages fifteen to seventeen at sixth-form level. The school does not publish a number of places or forms of entry for any year group, so the admissions office is the source for availability in a given year group.
Year 9 is described as a key entry point, joined by pupils moving up from the Prep School and by pupils from other schools and countries, with classes of up to 18. Year 7 sits within the Prep School, which lets pupils remain in a prep environment for two more years before senior school. Full boarding is offered from Year 3 (age 7).

How the 13+ assessment works
The 13+ assessment is an online CAT assessment sat under invigilation after the registration form and fee are submitted. The admissions policy describes it as diagnostic testing that checks whether a child can access the chosen curriculum, which fits the school's description of itself as academically inclusive.
The same online step applies from Year 3 upwards; only Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are exempt. Wycliffe does not publish the length of the test, the number of questions or a pass mark on the pages we read. International applicants also take a CAT assessment for their year of entry and write an essay in English, and an offer is based initially on those results.

Registration follows an eight-step sequence from enquiry to acceptance, and there is no formal deadline for Reception to Year 9, since applications are taken throughout the academic year. Year 12 applications can be submitted until the start of the academic year, and the Development Year has September and January entry.
The eight steps begin with the online enquiry form and an open day or personal visit, continue through registration, school reports, the invigilated CAT assessment and the day and overnight visits, and end with the decision on an offer and its confirmation with an online deposit.
- Complete the online enquiry form
- Attend an open day or book a personal visit and tour
- Complete the registration form and pay the registration fee online
- Send copies of the two most recent school reports, or the latest educational psychologist's report if extra support is needed
- Sit the online CAT assessment under invigilation
- Attend day and overnight visits at the school
- Receive the decision on an offer of place
- Confirm the offer of place and pay the deposit online
Interviews and references
Wycliffe bases its decision on references from the previous school, the CAT result and an interview, which the admissions policy says takes place by video call or through a visit to the school. The how-to-apply page adds day and overnight visits before the decision on an offer of place.
Two recent school reports are requested at registration; a child who needs additional support sends the latest educational psychologist's report instead. Parents of children with learning support or special educational needs are asked to discuss those needs with the school before applying, so that the school can confirm it can make adequate provision.
Scholarships and bursaries
Scholarships are offered at 11+, 13+ and 16+, and means-tested bursaries can cover up to 100 percent of the full fee excluding extras. At 11+ the subjects are academic, art, drama, music and sport, with assessments that the policy places in the autumn and spring terms of Year 6. At 13+ they are academic, art, design and technology, drama, music and sport, assessed in Year 8.
The 13+ and sixth-form assessments run over one week in the autumn and spring terms, sport in the autumn only, with results emailed within two weeks. The academic award tests verbal, non-verbal, spatial and quantitative reasoning, and creative subjects may ask for a portfolio. Scholars receive a reduction in fees, and applicants can enter more than one category.
Fees and what they include
Fees are published per term on the school's fees page for each year group, with separate day and boarding rates and a monthly direct debit option; the figures are in the key facts above. The senior day fee is described as all inclusive, covering a hot three-course lunch, and day pupils may also join boarders for breakfast and dinner.
In the Prep School, day fees carry no additional charge for meals or before and after-school care. A sibling discount is mentioned without published criteria, and the fees page also describes a credit towards fees when a new family joins on a parent's introduction. Withdrawal requires a full term's written notice, signed by both parents or guardians.
Where pupils join from
Wycliffe has its own Prep School for ages seven to thirteen, which is Years 3 to 8, alongside a Nursery and Pre-Prep from age three. The school states that the vast majority of Prep pupils move up to the senior school, which starts in Year 9.
Senior entrants also arrive from other schools in the UK and overseas, and the school welcomes international applicants for all years. It lists no named feeder or partner schools. Short-term prep programmes of one term up to one year are available for international pupils in Years 3 to 8.
16+ entry requirements
Sixth-form entry at 16+ depends on GCSE grades in the subjects a pupil wants to study, set out course by course on the A Level subjects page. Examples include a 6 in the subject for Art, French, English Literature and Spanish, a 7 in Mathematics for Further Maths, and 6 and 7 out of Mathematics and Physics for Physics.
Vocational routes ask for lower thresholds, such as a 4 in Mathematics and English for BTEC Business. GCSE Mathematics and English Language retakes are available, and international pupils without a first-language English GCSE take the IELTS exam. Applications for Year 12 are open until the start of the academic year, and the CAT assessment and interview apply as at other entry points.
How to prepare
Preparation for this process centres on the online CAT sitting, which the school describes as diagnostic; familiarity with working on a screen and with reasoning questions is usually enough. The academic scholarship tests verbal, non-verbal, spatial and quantitative reasoning, so practice with mixed puzzle-style questions is a sensible use of time.
The interview and the day and overnight visits reward a child who can talk about their current school, interests and reasons for wanting to board or attend as a day pupil. For scholarship candidates, preparing a portfolio, audition piece or sport evidence tends to matter more than extra written practice. Sixth-form applicants should check their predicted GCSE grades against the subject table early.

Preparing for the Wycliffe College 13+ with Taylor Tuition
Families preparing for the Wycliffe College 13+ usually come to us a year or so before the assessment, though shorter runs work where the foundations are already sound. Having prepared pupils for entry to leading independent and grammar schools, with placements including Westminster, St Paul's, Wycombe Abbey and Eton, our tutors build each programme around the format the school actually uses, whether a written paper, an online pre-test, an interview or a combination of them.
More than half of our tutors hold Qualified Teacher Status and around three in five hold a master's degree or doctorate, and the pool includes former heads of department, exam-board examiners and teachers from independent and boarding schools, so the preparation is led by people who know how selective schools assess. Every tutor who works with children holds an enhanced DBS check.
Families work with us online from anywhere in the UK or abroad, and in person in central London. Fees start from £50 per 50-minute session and depend on tutor level and subject, with no registration fee and a free initial consultation to talk through your child's current level and the timeline to the 13+.
