How does 11+ entry work at Godolphin and Latymer?

The school admits girls into Year 7 through the London 11+ Consortium, a group of thirteen independent girls' schools across London that sit one shared online entrance assessment, so no school sets its own paper. Candidates must be born within the relevant twelve-month window for the intake, and entry runs on examination, school reference and interview, with no separate academic test set by the school itself. The school also offers occasional places in Years 8 to 10 and a distinct 16+ route into the Lower Sixth, both outside the 11+ process described here.

How the 11+ assessment is structured

The entrance assessment is a single online test, written for the Consortium by its test provider, Quest Assessments, and sat once by each candidate however many Consortium schools she has applied to. It runs to 100 minutes with a 30-minute break after Verbal Reasoning, taken at the candidate's own school where possible or at a Consortium school if hers cannot host it.

Three sections, Maths, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning, are adaptive, so question difficulty adjusts to each girl's answers; the other three are non-adaptive, with fresh content used on each of the three sitting dates. Results are standardised across sittings and shared with every Consortium school a candidate has applied to.

What each section of the test covers

The six sections run in a fixed order, each timed separately with an onscreen countdown.

• Maths (20 minutes, adaptive): based solely on the Year 5 National Curriculum, with stretch built into the style of the questions.
• Non-Verbal Reasoning (10 minutes, adaptive): pattern recognition and logical thinking
• English (20 minutes, non-adaptive): comprehension of a piece of fiction written specially for the exam, plus standard-English-usage questions, with no extended writing required
• Verbal Reasoning (10 minutes, adaptive): vocabulary, pattern recognition and language use
• Problem-solving (15 minutes, non-adaptive): using words and numbers across multi-step questions
• Creative Comprehension (25 minutes, non-adaptive): working across several unfamiliar information sources at once

How registration and the admissions process run

Families register online for the relevant Year 7 intake, then the school issues an Examination Entry Form asking for further details, including whether a scholarship or bursary is being sought and any access arrangements needed. The Consortium assessment follows on one of three fixed dates, after which the school selects candidates for interview using their assessment results; each Consortium school also seeks its own reference from the candidate's current head teacher ahead of the exam. Offers follow the interview round, and families then have a set window to accept the place and pay the deposit. A non-returnable registration fee applies at the outset.

Scholarships and bursaries at Godolphin and Latymer

Godolphin and Latymer does not offer academic scholarships at 11+; the only award at this entry point is a Music scholarship, worth up to 30% of fees and open to a talented musician who qualifies for a Year 7 place, with free lessons on one or two instruments and the possibility of extra bursary funding on top. Means-tested bursaries are separate and can cover between 10% and 100% of fees. Awards are based purely on household income and assets, with no bearing on academic performance; around ten girls a year receive help with fees, most of them fully funded. Both are applied for through the Examination Entry Form, with bursary applicants then completing a separate online portal application with supporting documents.

How to prepare for the assessment

The Consortium's own guidance is not to over-prepare: it recommends working through the published familiarisation materials so the format and question styles feel familiar, but warns that intensive drilling for Non-Verbal and Verbal Reasoning brings only marginal gains once a child understands the question types. Maths preparation can focus safely on the Year 5 curriculum, since nothing from Year 6 is tested, and wide reading supports both the English comprehension and standard-English sections, which need no extended writing. For interview, the Consortium is explicit that coached answers are easy to spot and actively discourages rehearsal, looking instead for evidence of independent and creative thinking.
