How do you get into Jeannine Manuel School? Families apply online through a parent account on the admissions portal, upload school reports and identity documents, and attend an interview with a member of the Leadership Team, after which the Admissions Committee reviews the whole file. There is no entrance exam with a named test provider; the assessment is the interview, which includes age-appropriate language and mathematics exercises for older applicants.

Entry runs from Nursery at age 3 through Year 13, with mid-year places when space allows, so the same route applies at 4+, 7+, 11+ and 16+. French is not required, and the pages below set out each step, the fees and the bursary route as the school publishes them.

Entry points and places

Jeannine Manuel takes pupils from Nursery at age 3 up to Year 13, and the school describes no fixed set of entry years beyond that range. Mid-year entry is possible when there is space.

The school is split into Early Years and Primary (Nursery to Year 6), Middle School (Year 7 to Year 10) and Upper School (Year 11 to Year 13), each on its own campus around Russell Square and Bedford Square. The number of places in each year group is not published, so the Admissions Team is the source for availability.

  • Early Years and Primary: Nursery to Year 6
  • Middle School: Year 7 to Year 10
  • Upper School: Year 11 to Year 13

How the admissions interview works

The assessment is an interview with a member of the Leadership Team, held with the applicant and parents to check that the school is a good fit. Its content depends on the child's age and educational experience.

Early Years applicants play, while older applicants complete age-appropriate language and mathematics exercises. Overseas families can interview on Zoom, and overseas applicants can complete the admissions exercises at their current school. Families already enrolled at the sister schools in Paris or Lille do not need an interview.

Registration and the admissions timeline

Applications open in October of the year before entry and are considered on a rolling basis, so the school strongly recommends applying early because places are limited. No closing date is published.

The sequence runs in six steps, from getting to know the school to accepting an offer. Families receive a decision within two school weeks of the file being complete, and an offer letter arrives by email with registration instructions. Parents then have two weeks to accept and submit the final forms and documents.

  • Attend a presentation or campus tour, read the prospectus, or book a call with the Head of Admissions
  • Create a parent account on the admissions portal and start the online application
  • Upload the required documents and pay the application fee
  • Attend the interview with a Leadership Team member
  • Admissions Committee reviews the full file and issues a decision
  • Accept the offer and submit final forms within two weeks

Documents and references

The application needs a photo, a birth certificate, a passport and school reports for the last two years plus the current year, or EYFS progress checks where available. Reports from the current school therefore carry weight, because the Admissions Committee reviews them together with the interview.

Where parents are divorced or separated, a co-signed authorisation is also required, and the school asks families to contact the Admissions Team for the details. Non-French speakers are welcome at every level, and beginners in English are welcome up to Year 7.

Scholarships and bursaries

The school's pages list no scholarships, and financial support comes through means-tested bursaries for families with demonstrated financial need. Awards cover two thirds of tuition fees on average, and the pages give no maximum share.

Assessment uses a means-testing model that considers gross household income, the number of children enrolled and the level of tuition, and decisions are confidential. New families submit a separate bursary form alongside the online admissions application, and late applications are unlikely to succeed because funding is limited. Returning pupils reapply annually at re-enrolment. French families first check eligibility for AEFE government aid, and the school bursary then covers the gap between school fees and the AEFE threshold.

Fees and what they include

Fees are published per year for each stage, with 20% VAT added for every year group except Nursery, which is VAT exempt. Year 11 is priced separately for the Baccalauréat Français International and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, and the exact amounts are in the key facts above and on the fees page.

A one-time application fee and a one-time first registration fee are non-refundable, and the fees page lists no separate deposit. Tuition is charged per term and each term's fees fall due ahead of the term starting. Lunch and bus services are optional extras up to Year 10 and attract VAT as well.

Where pupils join from

Pupils move up within the school from Early Years and Primary into Middle School and then Upper School, and the pages name no external feeder or partner schools. Families join from a wide range of schools, which is why reports from the last two years form part of the file.

The school has sister schools in Paris and Lille, and families already enrolled at either skip the interview. Upper School entrants who do not speak French follow the International Baccalaureate track, while the Baccalauréat Français International pathway, which includes Advanced Placement courses, suits those with French.

How to prepare

Preparation centres on the interview and the file, since no entrance papers or external test are named. For older applicants, practising short pieces of writing and reading aloud in the language of schooling, together with everyday mental arithmetic, matches the language and mathematics exercises described.

Gather the reports, passport, birth certificate and photo early so that the application is complete when the portal opens in October. Parents can book a call with the Head of Admissions or visit a campus beforehand, and families wanting a bursary submit the form at the same time as the application. A calm, conversational interview is the aim.

Preparing for the Jeannine Manuel School 4+, 7+ with Taylor Tuition

The Jeannine Manuel School 4+, 7+ rewards steady preparation over a year or so, with the last term given to timed practice and interview confidence. Having prepared pupils for entry to leading independent and grammar schools, with placements including Westminster, St Paul's, Wycombe Abbey and Eton, our tutors match the programme to the school's assessment format and to where the child is starting from.

Because the pool includes former heads of department, exam-board examiners and teachers from independent and boarding schools, and more than half of our tutors hold Qualified Teacher Status, families get a tutor who understands what the assessors are looking for. Every tutor who works with children holds an enhanced DBS check.

Families work with us online from anywhere in the UK or abroad, and in person in central London. Fees start from £50 per 50-minute session and depend on tutor level and subject, with no registration fee and a free initial consultation to talk through your child's current level and the timeline to the 7+. Families receive progress reports after sessions and have a dedicated point of contact.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an entrance exam at Jeannine Manuel School?

Applications open in October of the year before entry and run on a rolling basis. The school strongly recommends applying early because places are limited. A decision follows within two school weeks, and families then have two weeks to accept the offer and submit final documents.
