Interviews and references
Interviews at Tettenhall depend on the route, with the Headmaster meeting sixth form applicants and the highest-scoring academic scholarship candidates. For Year 7 to 9 entry the pages read do not describe an interview for every child; the team exercises on assessment day serve as the group element.
Recent school reports are requested at registration, and in the Preparatory School teachers give feedback to the Head of Preparatory School, which together with the latest report decides whether a place is offered. Overseas applicants can ask the Admissions Team to arrange assessment in their home country.
Scholarships and bursaries
Scholarships are available for entry to Years 7, 9 and 12 in academic, sport, performing arts, art and music, and each gives a small discount off tuition fees. Academic awards are assessed through the Entrance Assessment, after which the highest-scoring pupils are interviewed by the Headmaster before awards are decided.
Sport, art, music and performing arts candidates attend individual assessments in the week before or after the Entrance Assessment, with art applicants also submitting a portfolio and music scholars sometimes asked to learn a new instrument. Bursaries are means-tested and separate from scholarships, open to families with a total income below the published threshold through a financial circumstances form; the maximum share of fees is not stated.
Fees and what they include
Fees are set per term and differ by year group, with one day fee covering Years 3 to 8, another Years 9 to 11 and a lower one for Years 12 and 13; the fees field gives the figures. Weekly and full boarding are priced separately for Years 5 to 9 and Years 10 to 13, and flexible boarding is available by the night or the week.
The day fee includes travel for school sports matches, all timetabled sports and Wi-Fi. Extras such as school buses, individual music lessons, trips and exam fees are charged separately. A non-returnable registration fee and an acceptance deposit apply, both higher for non-UK families, and sibling discounts run at 10%, 15% and 20% for the second, third and fourth child.
Where pupils join from
Tettenhall has its own Preparatory School from Nursery to Year 6, made up of Nursery and Pre-School, Pre-Prep and Upper Prep, with a Preparatory Pathways Programme giving curriculum continuity across the stages. The pages read do not set out how Year 6 pupils move into Year 7 or name partner schools.
Families joining from other schools register in the same way, send recent school reports and sit the Entrance Assessment. Daily minibus services run from towns including Bridgnorth, Shifnal, Telford, Newport, Gailey, Kingswinford, Bilston and Walsall, and no catchment area is published.
Sixth form entry requirements
Sixth form entry at Year 12 requires at least five GCSEs at grade 5 or above, school reports and a successful interview with the Headmaster. Grade 6 in GCSE Maths is needed for Further Maths and science subjects.
Some subjects add their own conditions, with PE asking for club-level participation in a sport, Music asking for an instrument or voice to grade 5 plus GCSE Music, and Art and Design asking for a strong portfolio where GCSE Art has not been studied. Scholarships are also offered at this entry point.
How to prepare
Preparation for Year 7 to 9 entry works best when it mirrors the three formal tests of numeracy, literacy and non-verbal reasoning, taken on a computer, with regular practice on screen so the format feels familiar. A short handwritten piece of creative writing each week builds the stamina the written task asks for.
For the team carousel, ordinary habits such as listening carefully to instructions and working with unfamiliar children are enough. Sixth form candidates tend to benefit from checking subject conditions early and preparing for a conversation with the Headmaster about their choices. Questions about learning support can be raised with the Admissions Team before assessment.
